Listen to Your Fears Now So You Can Find Your Right Action

When is waiting, and thinking, not the right step to take? When have you been sitting with non-action for too long?

Fear can be a big hindrance to action and creativity. It can really hold you back and keep you frozen in life. We are working on a way to face your fears and take compassionate action anyway. This is the third post in a series on living with fear. If you haven’t already read the previous posts, go back to read them now to learn the 7 steps to living with fear.

I call the third step in the process – Listen to the songs.

What does that mean? It means that it is time to listen, really listen to your fears.

We are great at avoiding our fears – most of us have had a lifetime of hiding from them – at least the mental passive ones that we tell ourselves here in the West. This is about the fears that hold you back from taking action – these aren’t the real fears that people in the world face on a day to day basis.

So, I want you to get very still and quiet. Make sure you are free from distractions so you can listen to the voices in your head that are telling you not to do this or that. The voices you telling you that you will fail or that you don’t matter . . . those voices. Listen. Listen right here, right NOW.

This might be scary and overwhelming, so I want you to be loving and kind with yourself at this point. The idea here is to listen and allow; to give your fear a space to exist without being pushed away and suppressed.

This is where to go back to letting it be. After you listen. Let it be. Again.

Once the overwhelm has faded and the fear is not so cutting it is time to take action despite these fears. How do we do this? We get vulnerable, get real, and decide how we can take wise action.

It is time to do some research and find the best way for you to express your values to the world around you.

In my last blog post, I shared the song “Let’s See Action” and it has some great lyrics about seeing action, seeing people, and about seeing who cares. The Who were singing about the importance of taking a stand for our values and claiming our freedom. We are free – let’s make sure it stays that way! We have a basic right to express ourselves, how are you going to share your message with the world?

Find your voice. Find the way you want to contribute compassionately to the world. Find a tool like writing, singing, sign making, that allows you to express yourself peacefully and from a place of love.

Let’s See Action.

This is where we start to become more comfortable to moving forward despite our fears. This is where we give love to our fear and take action anyway. And we do it over and over. We let our fear be, just as it is, but we don’t let it control us and we don’t try to squash it. We let it be.

Once you start to take action, your fear will take the seat as “The Passenger”, not as the driver. You have now started to transform your mind and your life to one of more creative compassionate action. How does it feel to be the driver of your own car instead of the passenger?
